Job Creation

The most popular political refrain we hear these days all over the country is the word ’empowerment’. Government leaders at all levels including executive and legislative members love this word. Many always saunter into different communities bearing what they call empowerment packages. They bring together highly qualified and trained youths and assault them with motorcycles and tricycles. Some clap their hands and some resign to faith. Some of these leaders manage to give out N10,000 or N20,000 loans or grants and call it empowerment. If you come to Owerri, there are places Mbakwe mapped out as industrial estates. Particularly at the Onitsha road industrial estate, many hardworking IMO people have attempted to construct all manners of industrial facilities there. Many have potentials to excel, produce and employ thousands of IMO youngsters. All these estates need are good roads, water and electricity infrastructure. These are things the government can easily put in place but successive governments have not. They all pay lip service and play to the political gallery. There are many abandoned government and private industries scattered all over the state. Government only need to invest little and real resources into these and hundreds of thousands of our peoples will be employed. Millions more will benefit indirectly and our state will be a safer and more viable place. This is what we need and not just kekes running around the place with disillusioned graduates behind the wheels.
